While big artists like South Africa’s AKA are done with opening shows for international artists, it’s sweet music for the local musos .

Local urban culture event organisers, Brand Resolve, will release the highly anticipated local line-up for the Rick Ross show including the opening act beginning of December.

Speculation has been rife that hip-hop star, Apollo Diablo will be the opening act for what promises to be the biggest hip-hop show in Botswana. The Love and war song maker even posted excitedly on his Facebook page: “Batswana wanna see that Rick Ross/Apollo D collaboration”.

In an interview with Showbiz, one of the show organisers, Alice Naygilit said they have not confirmed the artist who will open for Rick Ross on New Year’s Eve. She declined to neither confirm nor deny the possibility of Apollo Diablo as the opening act. “We are not taking the decision alone, therefore we have to consult with the sponsor,” she said.

For most local hip-hop artists who have not penetrated the local market, it is always a good opportunity to impress as the opening act. The most probable opportunity they can get is a collaboration, but when an artist has really impressed, in this case Rick Ross, it opens an opportunity to be signed under his MMG record label, which has signed the likes of Meek Mill, just to mention but a few. The same way coaches scout their talent in sports, big and established musicians spot stars in unlikely places. Therefore, whoever will be chosen has a mountain to climb not only for themselves, but also for the whole hip-hop/motswako industry as a whole.

MTN Business Botswana, Trace Urban, Trace Africa and Kopanong FM power the event. Tickets for the show are already available at WebTickets. The standard ticket goes P500, the golden circle is P800 while VIP is P2,000.
