Bishop Setlalekgosi to be laid to rest on Friday

His body will be open for viewing from 10am tomorrow (Thursday) until Friday morning except when there is a service taking place.
According to Apostolic Administrator Diocese of Gaborone, Bishop Frank Nabuasah, there will be a vigil mass on Thursday evening at 7pm followed by an all-night vigil or wake. A funeral mass will be at the stadium before the burial.
Bishop Setlalekgosi died at the age of 91 after being ill for sometime. The Reverend Emeritus was the first Motswana to be appointed to the position of bishop.
“He was treated at Bokamoso Hospital. At some point, he was taken to South Africa to consult a specialist and had been in and out of hospital for two months,” Bishop Nabuasah said.
Bishop Setlalekgosi was born in Serowe on September 14, 1927 and grew up in the small village of Mmaphashalala in the Central District.
Setlalekgosi contributed immensely to the social, political and economic growth of the country, with a focus on education, health, land development, poverty eradication and skills development.
According to Bishop Nabuasah, the late Setlalekgosi started a feeding scheme in primary schools and home-based care at Pabalelong Hospice in Metsimotlhabe, which takes care of those affected by chronic diseases amongst others.
Setlalekgosi also started a study group in Francistown, which later transformed into Setlalekgosi Community Junior Secondary School.
He also influenced the position that the government took against abortion, taking into account the value of human life.
