TK orders forensic audit at BNSC

This follows the abrupt resignation of the Commission’s chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng last week.
According to sources, Khama took the decision to order a forensic audit, amid reports of misappropriation of funds.
“This is sport and allegations of misappropriation of funds are always abound. There is a lot that is happening. Some of these things are driven by elections. It is not that people mismanage funds as there are systems in place at BNSC,” a source said.
However acting BNSC chief executive officer, Bobby Gaseitsiwe denied that there is a pending forensic audit at the Commission.
“People are just peddling lies,” Gaseitsiwe said.
Khama was locked up in meetings yesterday, and did not respond to Mmegi Sport enquiries at the time of going to press.
Reikeletseng said he could not comment on the audit allegations, since he was no longer with the BNSC. He said there were claims that he owes BNSC, which he denied. Reikeletseng said his fate at the Commision was sealed after the country hosted the 2018 Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games in Gaborone.
“There was a lot that was happening during the CUCSA games where there were reported flouting of procedures, which I reported to the ministry. It is an indication that I stepped on wrong toes. The other thing was that entertainment people were complaining that I used the stadium and other BNSC resources for my own company,” he said.
Reikeletseng said there was a time when he was requested to contest for a Botswana Democratic Party position, which he declined. This came amid allegations that he was aligned to the Umbrella for Democratic Change, which he said, was not true.
“When I reflect, I realise that a lot of these issues culminated in this anger. Professor Martin Mokgwathi was mentioned as my possible successor, but already there is speculation, which is meant to shame him,” he said.
Reikeletseng said the speculation around Mokgwathi has nothing to do with the BNSC. He said there is a lot of infighting at the Commision.
Reikeletseng said it is not the end of his involvement in sport as he is currently part of international sport bodies.
On the appointment of Khama as sports minister, Reikeletseng said President Mokgweetsi Masisi made the right choice, as he knew what he was doing.
