Candidates for the post of BDP youth wing chairperson are Bruce Nkgakile, Collen Moshotlhi, Simon Mabange (current secretary for BDP youth), Fox Segwai, Ronny Kgathi and Vuyo Yani (specially elected councillor for Sowa).

Those who want secretary general position include Khumo Lekoko, Motamma Sesinyi (former big brother contestant), Tshiamo Lampy Ngake, Tekolo Osego, Toy Wetsho and Thato Mogotsi.

Aspiring candidates have started lobbying amongst the members, but lobby lists are not yet out since the writ and date for congress was announced this week.

“The date for the congress was announced very late.

We have only one-and-half months to campaign in the 57 constituencies and this is not fair to us as candidates. The problem is that people are busy in December with their family things.

This was done deliberately by some members of youth wing committee to disadvantage others from campaigning,” a source within the party said.

The source said the BDP youth executive committee has been reluctant to announce the date of the congress.

BDP youth chairperson, Andy Boatile said the congress will be held under the theme, ‘Our Structures our Strength.’

“Those who want to contest for the youth positions should abide by the party rules and regulations. If one fails to do so, he/she could be barred from contesting,” Boatile warned during a press conference this week at Tsholetsa House.

He said the BDP central committee finalised the dates of the elections for the national youth congress on Monday during their monthly meeting.

On other issues, the BDP deputy secretary general Shaw Kgathi said the Women’s Wing will hold their general assembly in Mahalapye on December 2-4.

“The BDP women are expected to talk about issues affecting them as women and how they could help the party. The women’s wing general assembly will come up with motions, which are expected to be debated at their congress that is scheduled next year,” he said.
