Initially, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) had appointed George Mogopodi and Davies ‘Mlungisi’ Kopi as coaches, but Butler felt he should be involved since the junior side serves as a feeder to the national team.

Butler was then handed the reigns and would be assisted by Mogopodi and Kopi.

BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane refused to disclose the names of the coaches in an interview this week, instead saying the announcement would be made on Wednesday.

However, Mmegi Sport can reveal that Butler would lead the technical team when the young Zebras attempt to win their first regional title.

Botswana is in the same group as hosts, South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland for the tournament, which runs from December 7 to 16, 2016 in the North West.

Meanwhile, England-based Renei Batlokwa was not going to be considered for the junior side even if he was fit.

The South End attacking midfielder suffered a knee injury in September and is out until the New Year. But Butler, earlier this week, said Batlokwa will be jettisoned straight to the senior side, the Zebras.

“He will not be called for the Under-20s, he is ready for the senior side,” Butler said of the 19-year-old.
