This comes after their consultative meeting to brief its members about the state of the organisation and its preparedness for the general elections, which was held over the weekend at Moselewapula Junior Secondary School.

The UDC has not yet identified candidates for constituencies that were under the oust Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).  The coalition movement kicked BMD out last year after it was charged with a number of offences.

Over the weekend, a task team, which consists of different members from the three remaining affiliated parties, Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana People’s Party and the Botswana National Front (BNF), was formed to look into those issues and find credible candidates who could fill up the vacancies. Each party has contributed two members to the task team.

“The task team will report to the UDC National Executive Committee (NEC) on the names of people who have shown interest in those constituencies. Constituencies are also requested to submit names of people that they believe could represent the party.

They will also look into appeals that were not finalised at the different political party primary elections. Members had asked that all pending issues be dealt with by the end of February,” UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said.
