The criminals are usually unemployed young men from the surrounding villages of Mogoditshane, Mmopane, Ramotswa, Molepolole, Tlokweng to mention a few. Many of the pickpockets, according to the police depend on theft for survival.

In an interview with Mmegi, Borakanelo station commander superintendent Amos Solomon said women are the most targeted individuals, because they are the ones who report with high numbers as compared to their male counterpart.

“On daily basis we receive four to five cases of pick pocketing mostly reported by women either their handbags or mobile phones snatched resulting in it being the most reported crime in my station. Usually these thieves pretend to be walking within the malls whilst busy looking at people’s pockets or handbags,” Solomon said.

Solomon pleaded with members of the public to be cautious at all times when walking or doing their shopping to avoid falling prey to criminals.
