Tutume police launch manhunt for suspected Zim murderer

Yesterday Tutume police station commander superintend Jerry Halahala admitted that the police are still finding it difficult to arrest the alleged culprit more than a week after the incident.

The Zimbabwean, who is said to be dark skinned and middle aged, allegedly killed a man and his wife after a serious quarrel at Sindichiwa cattlepost in the Nkange area, more than a week ago.

The Nkange area is one of the areas that houses a lot of Zimbaweans because of its proximity to the Maitengwe border, separating Botswana and Zimbabwe.

“The three were part of a team that was called to assist one of the residents who had a social activity. What we have gathered is that an argument ensued which resulted into the two murders,” said Halahala who pleaded with members of the public to assist with the arrest of the Zimbabwean.

He said that the police search is made complex by the fact that the Zimbabwean’s initials are not known apart from his nickname, ‘Proper’.

“He is an illegal immigrant who at the time of the killings was employed by one of the residents in the area. The employer also knows his nickname only.”

Halahala said they suspect the alleged culprit has fled back to Zimbabwe and they have since enlisted the assistance of their Zimbabwean counterparts to help them in their manhunt.

The alleged murderer is suspected to have used a log to kill the two victims. Halahala said immediately after the incident they launched an intensive hunt for the Zimbabwean to no avail.

This is the second case recorded by Tutume police in which a main suspect has disappeared after committing a murder crime.

In October 2013, four people were murdered in separate incidents in the villages of Marobela, Sebina and Nshakashokwe in what was described as serial killings.

The suspect in the four murders is also alleged to be a Zimbabwean.

The suspect also physically harmed villagers, destroyed their property and left audaciously threatening messages.

To this day, the suspect in the murder cases is yet to be arrested. The police have acknowledged that arresting the suspect remains a very difficult task.
