And looking on was President Ian Khama who once again emphasised that Masisi’s main mission has been to wow the opposition activists into the BDP fold, adding that Masisi has been doing that assignment with distinction.  Khama said a recent tape leak played by local radio stations depicting his Vice President on a recruitment drive should not deter Masisi from his sterling job.

“They are leaking the tape because they are aware that you are causing them sleepless nights; continue recruiting them, whether they are recording you on tapes or not,” Khama said. Amongst Masisi’s captures was the surprise return to the party of its former youth wing chairman Dithapelo Tshotego, who had decamped to the opposition the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

Masisi also paraded another former BDP man, now councillor for Sefhare, Joseph Mafoko, also from the BCP. The BCP also lost their Moshopha based campaign manager a certain B Tebagano, as well as a former opposition Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) youth chairperson, Molepolole South. There were further ululations when the South West region overseer Botlogile Tshireletso announced the capture of Bobirwa-based former Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) women’s wing chairperson Ivory Keekee, whom she described as someone who had been under the BDP radar for sometime. She is described as a former campaign manager.

She is a former BDP activist who had defected to the BMD. Gaokgakala Mosope, a former UDC councillor in Molepolole was also paraded. MP Alfred Madigele’s Serolwane ward led with opposition defections as a good number of new members were registered at this ward. It was a victory celebration fit for a Vice President and the soon-to-be President of the country. Soon as he was ushered onto the stage, he was handed a BDP branded top of the range bicycle that he immediately rode on to the cheers of the crowd.

He described the gift as a pleasant surprise that he was not expecting.

Masisi also presented President Khama with a pregnant Brahman heifer as a truck drove into public view.

The glamour was not over as Masisi presented three vehicles, a mini-bus, a truck, and a sedan, saying the truck and sedan will be auctioned to fundraise for the region and the constituency respectively, while the mini-bus has been donated to MP Madigele’s constituency specifically to assist at the settlement of Bikwe, to help ferry the pupils to school. The local Methodist Church has been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the mini-bus and that they can use it for any other activities to raise funds.
