Botho University student faces shop breaking, robbery charges

The state alleges that the student, Chedu Maswabi, and her accomplices, Ookeditse Mabika and Moitshepi Spencha, broke into Extra Save Super Stores late last year in Tonota and stole goods amounting close to P87,000.

The goods allegedly stolen by the trio included airtime of the different networks, Okapi knives, tobacco wrappers, toilet paper, corrugated iron, padlocks and cash boxes.

The accused allegedly meted violence on the security guard who was manning the shop.

When the accused appeared before Magistrate Game Mooketsi, prosecutor Masego Moloi applied for charges to be read to the accused and their pleas to be entered.

All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, Moloi applied for Mabika - who is Maswabi’s boyfriend – and Spencha to be further remanded in custody.

The magistrate acceded to the prosecution’s application and remanded Mabika and Spencha in custody until March 4, 2019 when they are expected to come to court for case management conference.
