According to a teacher at the school who preferred anonymity, the three boys left the school hall where they were sitting for Mathematics Paper 3 to look for furniture, as there is shortage in the school. “The headmaster met them on their way and charged at them as they tried to explain. Two ran away and the headmaster came with one accompanied by two teachers,” she said.

The teacher said the student was then beaten before being ordered to sit down and write the examination. It is said one of the teachers then realised the boy was not writing and the other two were not back. One of the teachers was then summoned to look for the other two and the three were taken to write the paper at the school library.

According to the source, Gadiinewe then ordered the two teachers he had brought with him to assault the captured student, to wait for the students to finish writing the examination and bring them to his office. “They were then assaulted by the trio. As they were still beating one of them, the other two escaped through the window. They then took the one student to the Police alleging that he was in possession of dagga,” the source said.

It is said the student had to sit for his Design and Technology paper at the Police Station and the only thing recovered from him was matches and not dagga as alleged by the headmaster. The other two are said to have missed their afternoon Social Studies paper and did not show up yesterday.

The source also said there has been many complaints against the headmaster, which the Kweneng Regional Office is aware of. Gadiinewe would not comment stating that he is not authorised to speak to the private media.

Contacted for comment, Letlhakeng Police Station Commander Superintendent Christopher Molobe said they got a report that some students did not want to write the examination and disrupted classes. He said the students were said to be part of a gang that was troublesome. “ The school head wanted us to intervene, but it was a minor matter as we found out it was not true there were any disruptions,” he said. He refuted claims that there was any student found in possession of dagga.

At the time of going to press, Kweneng regional director Benson Rauwe said they had not received any concrete information on the matter. He however said he would get to the school to find out what really transpired and take proper remedial action.
