Cross-border crime a global concern - Marathe

She said this when officially opening a workshop on basic criminal intelligence analysis, which was held at Grand Palm yesterday.
She said cross-border crimes such as human trafficking, environmental crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and related crimes have a negative impact on economies as funds that could have been used for developments are often diverted to fighting these crimes.
Marathe said the country is hard-hit by a high influx of illicit drugs from neighbouring countries that have now infiltrated schools. She thanked Interpol for the continued support in the fight against transnational organised crimes.
“Information sharing between international law enforcement agencies is paramount as these crimes do not have respect for any borders,” Marathe said.
