Teen Rapes 25-Year-Old Woman At Old Naledi

The duo allegedly spent Friday night together with others drinking alcohol at a certain yard in Old Naledi location.

Confirming the rape case, Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Counsel Moyo said it was alleged that whilst drinking the woman fell asleep and was woken up by the teenager sexually assaulting her.

Moyo said the matter was reported to the police and the teenager was arrested. He is currently in police custody facing a single count of rape.

“The victim claims she does not know the lad, but only spent time with him and others drinking alcohol. Investigations on the matter are ongoing to establish what really transpired,” Moyo said.

Meanwhile, Moyo said Ramotswa police are also investigating yet another rape case in which a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped the same day early morning at the village.

The teen was allegedly attacked by her 21-year-old neighbour while sleeping and raped her in the early hours of Saturday morning at around 3am.

Moyo said the duo stayed together in a multi-residence yard in Ramotswa. He said the suspect was arrested the same day and is currently in police custody and helping the police with investigations.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish what really transpired that fateful early morning. The suspect is highly likely to appear before court tomorrow facing a single count of rape,” Moyo said.

Moyo raised concerns about escalating rape incidents in his policing district and pleaded with men to respect women. He said everyone has the right to live their lives freely, but it seems that was not the case for women in Gaborone and surrounding areas.

He stated in his district, Mogoditshane is at the forefront as rape cases are reported every weekend. This worries the police as cases continue to spiral out of control despite their interventions to scrub the surge.

Moyo said most of the victims being women, are raped by the people they know and to have spend time with before the incident.

He said it’s only in few instances in which unknown strangers attacked and raped women.
