DIS Raid Staff Members Linked To Kgosi

There were simultaneous raids conducted at Kgosi’s residence and some of his close business associates, including DIS staff members.
Five agencies; DIS, Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Botswana Police Service (BPS), Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS), and the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) have instituted a major corruption investigation around the once untouchable spymaster.
After his highly published arrest and sudden release last month, investigators are working around the clock to build a case against him on what could possibly be the biggest corruption probe in Botswana.
On the eve of Valentine’s Day, the DIS were granted an order by Gaborone principal magistrate Batho Kgerethwa to return for search and seizure at Kgosi’s properties.
On Friday, when a team of investigators arrived at his Phakalane mansion they were refused entry and a standoff that lasted for over five hours ensued.
The investigators came with a videographer to capture everything on film. Kgosi, still crying of back pains, sat defiantly inside the yard, refusing to grant the investigators access to his property.
Kgosi could be heard telling the investigators to go and come with DIS boss, Peter Magosi or else he would not let them in. He asked them, “Okae ene Magosi? O tshabang gotla kwano?” Kgosi eventually surrendered and yielded to investigators to do their job.
Meanwhile, other members of the probing team were spread around Gaborone, raiding businesses which included Kgosi’s accountant John Little’s company, Corporate Services. Other raids were conducted at properties belonging to Sebina brothers; Tshepho and Kegone Sebina who are also linked to Kgosi.
The DIS even went after their employees as they (DIS) raided some of their staff members who are believed to be Kgosi’s confidantes. Magosi confirmed they conducted operations at some of officers’ homes, but did not disclose their names.
After 7pm on Friday, the investigators drove in an utility bus to load the evidence seized from one of the employees’ the house.
Magosi was not forthcoming with details regarding the raid, but said the operation was part of the joint investigation.
The search is expected to continue today (Monday) at his other properties including Sentlhane Farm near Mokolodi and his cattle post in Maboane.
