The BFA fired Bright last night with the association’s chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo, confirming the development during a press conference on Wednesday.

Bright has said he did not meet his targets, which were to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and improve the team’s FIFA rankings, due to inadequate support from the BFA.

But Mfolo refuted the claims at today’s press briefing.

“You get your time to prepare during the FIFA week.  We have got a league that is running.  Some countries even meet in the host country. Since I came to office, I have (always) ensured that the Zebras are engaged during the FIFA week.  We agreed on deliverables.  If you take up a job and feel it is too hot, you must jump out. Even if we are rebuilding, results are supposed to be there,” Mfolo said.

He said the whole technical team has been fired together with Bright, and moves are underway to appoint an interim coach before next month’s AFCON qualifier against Angola.

Mfolo said the BFA would advertise the post, and expect to have made a substantive appointment before June this year.

Bright found the going tough in the qualifiers where the team is without a win in five matches, with only the Angola game remaining.
