Addressing the media on Wednesday, Mfolo said the association was in no position to bid but he said a proposal could be made the through Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC). He however hinted that the chances are very slim after the BFA let go off last year’s hosting opportunity.

The BFA failed to raise 25% of the hosting budget as per the requirements.  “I don’t think we are going to bid, but we can make a hint to the commission (BNSC), show them that there is an opportunity here. We would like to host but when you do, the commission must okay everything. Last year were supposed to host but we could not get the support from our parents,” he said.

Mfolo, however said the BFA had been asked to host the 2020 Under-17 COSAFA Championships but would need the blessing of the BNSC.  He also revealed that the Under-23 side has been drawn against Western-neighbors, Namibia in the preliminary round of the 2020 Olympic games to be held Japan. The Young Zebras will take on the Brave Warriors at the beginning of April. Meanwhile, the BFA will introduce FUTSAL in the women’s game in some regions. Under Maclean Letshwiti’s administration, women football has been played in regions as part of a restructuring process.

However, the move hit a snag, as some regions did not have adequate number of teams to form a league. “We have 11 regions playing out of the 17 regions we have.

Our plan is to introduce Futsal in those regions where there is no league football. We have also approached the Ministry and we will also be playing Futsal in our schools. The aim is to find and develop players who will play for the national teams. We understand that it is costly to run women teams so in this way we can easily identify players,” he said.

At the press briefing, Mfolo unveiled German football expert Dr Carolin Braun who has been appointed on a two-year contract. Braun is tasked with coach education and the development of football in both junior male and female players.
