The school beat 100 local primary schools to the top prize after collecting 34 992 boxes.  During an interview with a representative of the school, who is also a teacher, Vinoliah Letlole, the competition promoted cooperation between the parents and their children. She added that it also became an advantage to Parmalat Company because after learning about the competition, parents were motivated to buy more milk and other Parmalat products.

“As a school we were also determined to win the first prize and so we held a competition where our children would win either pens or pencils depending on the number of empty Bonnita boxes they bring. That worked as many children were motivated to bring more boxes so that they could win those prizes,” she added. She also pointed out that with the prize money, they asked Parmalat group to buy them cleaning materials and items such as electric kettles, irons, pans and others so that they could give them to their pupils during the prize giving ceremony which was aimed to motivate them to work harder in their academics.

Letlole added that they were also able to buy a music system, which would save the school a lot of money as they used to rent it. She said music is important for their pupils especially for those living with disabilities, who are fond of music.

“This cordless sound system will also help us more especially when we want to address our pupil as it also have cordless microphones,” she said happily.

Kgosi Neale Sechele Primary School, also from Molepolole, won the second price and walked away with P10, 000. According to the school’s representative, Onkutlwile Morakile, the school was thrilled to have won the prize money. She said they asked Parmalat to buy the school a laptop, printer and stationary so that its daily tasks could run smoothly.  Morakile said even though the council had given them printing machines, they became white elephants because the council could not fix them when they were broken.

She added that the stationary that includes manila papers, A4 plain papers and others would help teachers do their jobs with ease. She said the school had exhausted the PTA (parents teachers association) funds by buying some of the stationary and therefore the prize money would save them some.

For her part, Parmalat public relations and communication officer, Tebatso Kgakge said they decided to give back to the wise consumer who understood the nutritional benefits of Bonnita.  She said the competition started from April to October 2016.

She said BLLM had been at hand with a campaign in conjunction with primary schools, to help assist the schools through a pack collection programme.

“The Pack collection program, targeted 100 government primary schools in area’s such as Molepolole, Kanye, Lobatse, Ramotswa, Mochudi, Gabane, Mmankgodi, Rasesa, Otse, Thamaga, Metsimotlhabe, Kumakwane and Gaborone and entailed pupils being encouraged to collect BLLM containers to raise funds for their school,” she said.

Furthermore, Kgakge said the first 10 schools to collect 1200 packs won P1,000, with the overall first place school receiving P15,000 while the second place  got P10,000, third place P5,000 and the fourth  to the eighth place  walked away with P2,000. The pupil that collected more boxes in the top 18 schools won a branded tracksuit top and a carton (10 boxes) of 500 ml milk.

“As a global yet communal brand, Parmalat aims to play a daily role in the well-being of its consumers throughout the world, and as a result, the prizes attained by the students for their hard work towards contributing to the development of their varied schools through this campaign, will go towards contributing to the needs raised by the students and their school,” she added.

Kgakge added that a total of 66,932 pupils participated in the competition where they collected 136,296 one-litre BLLM packs and 506,526 BLLM 500ml packs making a total of 642,822.
