Alleged FSSS Student Murderer On The Run

The four accused, Thabo Machola, Misani Machola and Leabua Lekorwe (who are students at the University of Botswana and Ba Isago University respectively) and Mbiganyi Macha allegedly killed Tsholofelo Madziba - a then FSSS student who was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object on June 16 at Block 3.

The state also alleges that the quartet robbed Madziba P449 before proceeding to rob Ookeditse Nlanda a mobile phone worth P500 after they killed Madziba on that fateful day. Nlanda was released from Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) a few days after she was admitted in a critical condition after the accused allegedly hit her with a hammer on the head.

Chief prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told the court that Machola (Thabo) failed to appear in court during the last mention as scheduled and on Wednesday.

Pitlagano said he is not privy to the whereabouts of Machola (Thabo) who is cited as the first accused person in the charge sheet.

“We apply for a warrant of arrest for the first accused person to be further extended. Another date of mention may be set to allow the police to trace him because he has violated one of his bail conditions,” argued Pitlagano. He added: “The state is still preparing committal documents for the matter to be referred to the High Court”.

Kapeko wondered how long it will take for the committal documents to be ready and Pitlagano said they hope that the documents will be ready in a month’s time.

The other accused said they had nothing to say adding that they do not know the whereabouts of Machalo (Thabo).

The accused were granted bail on condition that Machola (Misani) and Lekorwe report at the Central police stations in Gaborone and Francistown respectively every Monday during working hours, Machola (Thabo) at the Shashemooke police post while Macha shall report at the Sebina police station. They were additionally told to attend court as and when required to do so. The accused will appear in court on December 15 for committal to the High Court.
