BONU Dumps BOPEU

BOPEU were slapped with the termination of BONU’s Botlhe Bargaining Forum (BBF) on October 6, and has since joined the BOFEPUSU Acting Jointly Agreement (AJA), where they have been awarded  two seats, one permanent and one rotating, the Monitor has learnt.

BONU says in their letter that their decision was taken after the BBF’s meeting on  October 4, at BOPEU’s offices, where they had come to seek clarification on the BBF operation.

“The reasons of our withdrawal is that none  of the components of BBF are meeting the threshold into PSBC and therefore see it fit to withdraw because the purpose of BBF does not serve the intended purpose,” wrote secretary general, K. Phaphane.

Although it is only happening now, those close to the developments say the latest developments were expected when a new committee opposed to the Glan Tshenyego led committee, assumed office.

The BONU AGM got out of hand early this year, resulting in the outgoing committee dissolving it, but their opponents were relentless and went on to vote a new committee that was  later recognised by the courts after the two rival factions escalated their differences to the courts of law.

The previous committee had turned down the overtures to be part of the BOFEPUSU AJA, while their rivals were seen as pro-BOFEPUSU and wanted to save the union from the clutches of  BOPEU.

However it was not clear at the time of going to press whether BONU’s membership of the BOFEPUSU AJA also extends to the BOFEPUSU Federation, as officials could not be reached.

Their termination of the BBF arrangement now leaves the BBF with BOPEU and TAWU both of which are currently not members of the PSBC.
