Venson-Moitoi, Khama, Guma Gang Up

Venson-Moitoi claimed that she was intimidated at the recent BDP Serowe regional meeting where she lost to the incumbent, Mokgweetsi Masisi in the nominations for presidential candidates. She was speaking before a packed Lady Khama Hall here at the meeting that was convened by Bangwato elders. Mma V said she was not allowed to question the processes and procedures of the regional meeting although she felt they were unconstitutional.
In particular, Venson-Moitoi alluded to the fact that Vice President Slumber Tsogwane intimidated her when she wanted to question the process of nominating presidential candidates. Venson-Moitoi said she was worried that some members in the leadership were ignorant of the party constitution and were leading the members astray in so far as the nomination of candidates is concerned. She complained that the elections held at the regional meeting were not well communicated, therefore not known to other members that were supposed to vote.
She said she was cautioned not to speak when a group of friends had convened and were portrayed as representatives of the region to elect the presidential candidate. “I have been a member of this party long enough and longer than other people in the leadership.
It was the first time that members were not allowed to table their grievances at the meeting held last week.” She said she was worried by the recurring tribalistic utterances by the incumbent. Venson-Moitoi said she was also concerned that the nation and the party were losing direction as the leadership were not truthful to Batswana. She said it is an open secret that Masisi and Khama are fighting, but pleaded that they take their fight out of her campaign.
Khama reports Masisi to Bangwato
Former president Ian Khama has openly admitted before the BDP members at the Lady Khama Hall that there was a huge problem between himself and Masisi. “You said if there was a problem I should come to you. Here I am. There is a huge problem. They want to bury me, my family and all of you,” he said.
Khama said he has watched as the President attacked him in different platforms. He said for 11 months, Masisi has promised to dialogue with him and he has waited with hope that change will come. He said the leadership was not following the constitution and called for the democrats to come together and ensure it is followed.
Guma wants Khama to come back
Tati East Member of Parliament, Guma Moyo has requested Khama to return from retirement and work actively for the BDP. “If there was a time to work for this country it is now. There is no time for retirement. Our forefathers and mothers would roll in their graves if we allow things to continue as they are,” he said.
“We all need to stand up and defend our democracy. The country is at crossroads. We have a responsibility to build and save this country.”
