Francistown companies sell products to Zimbabwe

Speaking at the Parliament yesterday, she explained that led to some companies’ security orders in the Zimbabwean market. The minister added that some of the products that were currently being exposed to Zimbabwe were, but not limited to, PVC pipes and tanks, clay bricks, laundry bar soap, perfumes, deodorants, hair products and automobile lubricants.
“We have a Bilateral Agreement with Zimbabwe which was signed back in 1956 and amended in August 2010 to among others facilitate trade between the two countries. The provisions of this Agreement apply to good grown, produced or manufactured in the territory of both parties, which may either be a district or city, hence the city of Francistown is covered by this Agreement,” she explained.
Kenewendo added that in their continued effort to promote trade between Botswana and Zimbabwe, where they have through BITC has over the years participated at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF). She added that show provides a platform for participating countries to link businesses with potential investors and buyers as well as to showcase new industries, technology and improved products from different sectors of economy.
She said their participation at ZITF was mainly to continue exposing and introducing Botswana products to the Zimbabwean market expand market share for existing products and also forge meaningful networks with key players in the Zimbabwean economy.
Furthermore, the minister explained that BITC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with their counterparts in Zimbabwe- Zimtrade, with a view to join forces and maintain a continuous working relationship for the achievement of their common objective of promoting economic ties between Zimbabwe and Botswana.
She was responding the MP for Francistown South Winter Mmolotsi who wanted to know what her ministry was doing to facilitate trade between Zimbabwe and the City of Francistown given the current economic condition in Zimbabwe and how her ministry was assisting business in Francistown to smoothly do business in Zimbabwe.
