Former Zebras assistant coach, Kenneth Mogae suggested an interim committee, as most of the coaches present at the meeting did not meet Botswana Football Association (BFA) requirements.

Selebi-Phikwe Regional Football Association chairman, Barulaganye Moloi said the BFA requires one to be in possession of a coaching certificate for them to be a member of a substantive committee.

“We went to seek for advice from BFA regarding the challenge we had where a significant number of our coaches do not have a coaching qualification, but are passionate and committed to developing football in the area,” he said.

“They made it clear that for one to occupy any position in the committee they should have a coaching certificate and it is for this reason that we will have to settle for an interim committee,” he added.

He said the interim committee will represent the region at the upcoming National Coaches Committee election in Gaborone next month.

Furthermore, Moloi implored the coaches to work harmoniously in order to ensure that the committee effectively delivers on its mandate, which is to improve the coaches’ welfare through working with the national committee.

“In a week or two we will have a technical officer from BFA who is going to work with us in all our activities including the youth league. I urge you to use this opportunity to uplift yourselves and improve our football,” he advised.

“Our effectiveness as the region is going to be measured by the progress of these activities and it is upon you as coaches to ensure that they are effectively implemented as you are critical stakeholders.”

The chairman said as per BFA’s requirements, the youth league is expected to commence on November 5, calling on the coaches to ensure that all their youth teams are prepared for the tournament.

He added that all the participating teams for both boys and girls will each receive a donation of 10 balls and a kit from BFA.

Meanwhile, Mogae said the five chosen interim members will decide among themselves who leads the committee and present their decision to all the members, adding that this will give other coaches a chance to work on getting their coaching certificates.

“We also have qualified coaches who unfortunately cannot make it to the meetings and we hope that they will be present when we elect a substantive committee,” he said.

Mogae further noted that after the National Coaches Committee election, the interim committee members would have to be confirmed, adding that there will be additions of members to form a permanent and complete committee.

The committee is made up of Gabanathata Tros, Bashi Tebelelo, Blue Same, Mogae while Lebogang Tirafalo is the only female member.
