In this programme, Orange Foundation will donate P390,000 towards purchasing and installation of computers and internet within all the SOS Children’s centres in Botswana. These centres are located in  Tlokweng, Francistown, and Serowe.

The programme starts at SOS Tlokweng, which is a home to 148 vulnerable children and youth and then to Serowe and Francistown SOS children’s homes in the coming months.

As part of this programme, Orange Foundation will also organise computer lessons to equip SOS children and youth with basic computer literacy to allow effective usage and positive experience from the donated equipment.

“For this programme, we don’t only offer digital tools, but we aim to go a step further in equipping the children with skills to enable them to use the tools to better their lives, education and careers, hence we felt the need to provide computer lessons. Our inspiration is to give SOS children a full experience of the digital revolution and connect them to what is important to their lives,” said Boga Chilinde-Masebu, Orange PR and Foundation Manager.  On behalf of SOS, Agnes Malanda, who is the SOS Fund Development & Communications Manager said that the donation could not come at a better time as their children will also be brought on board to the digital world.

“In this digital era, we are grateful for the opportunity to equip and empower our children with computer education. We hope that this will give them the advantage they need to excel in their studies through the use of internet for research, as well as prepare them for the real world with the basic introduction to computers they would have acquired,” says Malanda The Orange Foundation Digital Education programme was launched this year to support digital inclusion for marginalised groups in Botswana and was open to people living with disability, vulnerable children, women and girls as well as the youth. SOS Children’s Village was selected as the  beneficiary following a rigorous evaluation process.
