'Sleepover' turns into defilement charge

The unemployed teenager has been arrested for the alleged defilement. According to the police the girl’s mother caught the suspect sneaking out of her daughter’s room around 5am on Monday.

The girl, a Form 3 student, shares the room with her younger siblings. The mother was preparing to ready the younger ones for school when she encountered the suspect.

The suspect managed to slip away and disappeared. The mother then confronted her daughter and the girl opened up about her night with the suspect.

Letlhakane police commander superintendent Michael Maphephu said they received a report from the mother on the same morning of the incident.  He said the girl was immediately taken to Letlhakane Primary Hospital for medical check-ups.

“After her check-ups, she later led us to her boyfriend's place. We found the suspect at home, and he was arrested. We are investigating him, and he will appear in court very soon,” the police superintendent said.

Still in Letlhakane, Maphephu said police recorded two rape cases in the past week, one involving a minor. He said a 19-year-old boy had been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

The incident happened around 11pm in Phase 1 when the girl was walking home with others after a visit from their cousin’s place. The suspect allegedly pelted the group with stones and when they ran separate ways to save themselves, he grabbed the victim and raped her.

The suspect has been arrested and will appear before the Letlhakane Magistrate court this week.

In another incident, a 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at a bar near Letlhakane Stadium around 10pm over the weekend.

The woman had walked behind the bar to relieve herself when a rapist pounced and sexually assaulted her. The suspect is unknown and still at large.
