Systems had to play a second game inside 48 hours going against FIFA rules and regulations.

The former champions came into the game looking for their first maximum points and their real chance at goal came in the 15th minute with Stanley Ngala’s effort from Ronaldo Fortune’s cross going over the bar.

The two teams missed chances in a space of four minutes, Kaone Molefe’s curled free kick saved by Noah Maposa in the 18th minute while Thatayaone Ramatlapeng beat the keeper on a one-on-one but his shot missed the goal by a whisker in the 22nd minute.

At the start of the second half, Bongani Mafu replaced Fortune with Senatla Molefe, who nearly made an impact seven minutes later as he broke away with pace but could not direct his shot as it went wide.

Both teams could not make clear goal chances past the hour mark. In the 75th minute, Chiefs were awarded a free kick at the edge of the box but Lesego Galenamotlhale skied his effort. With only a minute to regulation time, Systems defender Osego Gaotewe played hero as he was sent off for a professional foul on Molefe.

The Chiefs’ speedy winger was let through from the blind spot by Dirang Moloi and Gaotewe pulled him down to prevent a possible goal.

“We had our chances, I think a draw is a fair result as the game was evenly balanced. I think our performance was okay after playing Gunners’ game a day ago,” Systems’ coach Thaloba “Machine” Nthaga said after the game.

He also defended Gaotewe’s sending off as he said it was unintended.

“In my opinion I think it was an offside. But sometimes you have to take one for the team and I don’t think it was intentional. He missed the ball and collided with other player,” he said.

For his part Chiefs’ coach Mafu said he was disappointed with his team’s finishing on the day.

“I am playing with young boys who need an experienced striker to lead them upfront. We played okay but we need to take our chances because we need goals to win games,” he said.
