Incentives for GU players, Galaxy undecided

GU director, Nicholas Zakhem said they have decided on the bonus for the players, although he did not disclose the figures.

“We have incentives for both the players and the technical team. We also had an incentive for winning the semifinal,” Zakhem said yesterday.

The Reds have recovered from a precarious financial position at the start of the season, and their ship has steadied following Zakhem’s return.

The players will expect to pocket relatively handsome amounts if they manage to defeat a dangerous Galaxy side.

While GU have finalised on incentives, Galaxy spokesperson, Tankiso Morake said they are yet to decide. “We have not decided,” Morake said.

Galaxy are some of the few financially stable sides in the Botswana Premier League (BPL). Meanwhile, Morake said there are packages for supporters wishing to make the 600km journey up north.

“Patmo Transport has offered supporters some buses at a very cheap price; P150 for a return trip,” Morake said. A carnival atmosphere is expected at the Francistown Sports Complex, a stadium that has hosted the last three finals.

Galaxy’s first and only triumph was recorded at the venue in 2017 while GU tasted their second glory in 2015. It is the first time the two sides meet in the final.
