According to sources, BMD vice president Tlamelo Mmatli, is set to represent the UDC in Molepolole South. He is said to have applied to the Umbrella as an individual member and  been admitted.

“I have been a UDC member and even at Parliament our sitting arrangement did not change. I was voted in 2014 under UDC ticket. I am still a BMD,” Mmatli said when contacted for comment.

Reports suggested BMD chair, Nehemiah Modubule had also joined the band wagon and applied for Lobatse. The constituency is reportedly under BNF. Modubule yesterday denied that he had made any such application.

Kabo Ketshogile, also a BMD member,  has also been accepted to represent the UDC in Lerala- Maunatlala after he made an application to the UDC. Another BMD member, Tiroyaone Ntsima, has been handed Francistown South Constituency.  This means the BMD will be left with only one constituency being Mochudi East, which currently has Gilbert Mangole as its legislator.

Several sitting councillors are expected to be announced as UDC candidates in the near future. Sources said even though the allocations are yet to be completed, the BCP is likely to walk away with only Mogoditshane constituency. Mzambiya Dibe is likely to represent the BCP in the constituency.

The UDC leadership is yet to make a determination on Gaborone Central, which both the BCP and Botswana National Front (BNF) have openly expressed interest in. The BNF wants Billy Sekgororoane to stand in the constituency, while the BCP wants Mpho Pheko. The BNF has thus far has been allocated two constituencies being Lobatse and Gabane/ Mmankgodi. Mogomotsi Gomang will contest in Gabane/Mmankgodi.

The UDC national executive committee is expected to finalise the issue of constituencies and ward allocation next week. UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa declined to comment on the issue of constituency and ward allocations nor disclose who had applied for the Umbrella membership. He said these would be finalised next week. “We will issue a statement on the matter after UDC NEC has agreed on all issues that they are discussing,” Mohwasa said.
