Pet ridiculousness

In 2016, movie enthusiast have been captivated by animation comedies like Zootopia, Angry Birds and Kung Fu Panda 3 amongst others just to name a few.

Recently big screen fanatics were privileged to munch on The Secret Life of Pets (TSLP). This film is a 3D animated comedy and another one of those that thrive on animal humor as the main catalyst of fun. These types of films try by all means to exaggerate animal behavior and instincts infused with human etiquette transformed into an irresistible joke.

Here is a snippet of what to expect from The Secret Life of Pets; viewers get to enjoy this fascinating drama ‘Max’ (Louis C.K.) is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that’s bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious bunny named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who’ve done them wrong. The two pals improvise but soon deal with the consequence of their choices whilst at the same time bonding during their misfortune”.

TSLP is incredibly funny because it stares some of the biggest names in comedy circles most notably Kevin Hart who recently got crowned with a life time achievement of a (hall of fame star) for being the funniest man on the planet. The film has that infectious ticklish power because it comes from the same director who also crafts the Despicable Me animation blockbusters and Chris Renaud, the genius behind this tickling delightful experience. The cohesion is simply amazing.

Action

This film is making waves and pocketing lots of income because of its vibrancy and serenading factor. During this experience one laugh to the point almost drooling because of catalysts like these. Kevin Hart is always short and funny, this time he takes another tiny version playing the role of a naughty gang leading bunny ‘Snowball’. This character is very hilarious as he energises the film spicing it up with a bit of antagonism.

I personally enjoyed this part of the script where by a bunny leads a ferocious rebellion army of stray animals like alligators, snakes, dogs and turtles just to name a few.   The animation is also nice because it looks crystal and the cinematography is on point. The Jungle Book’s 3D aspect set the standard for animation films at the beginning of this year. The Secret Life Of Pets’s use of computer generated imagery special effect worked wonders towards the overall quality of this film as it looks super high definition and also provoking with enticing sounds of Pharell Williams (Happy) and other pop jingles.

The animation is open to all ages, however the comic material is even joyful to grownups, and this is Kevin Hart! Director Chris Renaud’s creativity left the audience in stitches at local box office lately when this film demonstrated how our pets often try to communicate back to us. So we learned not to take any pet gesture lightly as that’s its form of communication. So apparently when your pets get excited when you open the door they are expressing how they wish for the owner not to leave. Apart from that the irony is just on point, so hilarious this film mocks a lot of human aspects as we see pets behaving like people; picture a Chihuahua day dreaming watching a soapy alongside some of the weirdest animal friendships like hawks swearing to become best friends with animals they relatively eat.

That is just ridiculously funny as others speak in ascents. The action is also too much coupled with deceptions and mystique, for an animation film the amount of effort and innovation put in the form of stunts is very good. You get to enjoy to the point that the duration even feels less as the film is very coherent. For instance enthusiasts got a dose of adrenaline rush moments as and when fugitives Max and Duke run for their lives from thug cats and snowball.

My lasting legacy highlight action scene is meeting Snowball’s bouncers (intimidating pig with tattoos), which is even enraged by humans. This part is preposterous as it exaggeratedly symbolised the taboo of why pigs frighten or eat little human beings. This might be a comedy but it has some meaningful messages like pet care, jealousy, bullying, pride, survival, love and friendship wrapped and sugar coated in the form of jokes.

Quotes from the movie that shed humor

Snowball - You got a stench of domestication all over you

Tiberious -You are a very thoughtful food! I did not say that I meant friend – food. I was born with killer instincts I can’t help it

Max-We are owner killers, we blended our humans

Reception

This animation blockbuster premiered internationally back in July 2016 enduring a positive reception in terms of sales sweeping a staggering $104 million sales on its opening weekend according to box office. By so doing The Secret Life of Pets crushed its $75 million budget. Three months after its international release the latest release at local box office sees the film raking in more money and audience as it has currently grossed a worldwide total of close to a billion with $857 million revenue. This animation is the in thing, only the Zootopia experience comes close to this level of craziness.
