Makwengwe revealed that when addressing members of the press after his team was beaten 2-0 by Jwaneng Galaxy in the Mascom Top 8 Final at the Francistown Sports Complex on Saturday.

He said that currently anyone who successfully applies for that position is doomed to fail from the start because conditions are not conducive for any coach to succeed.

“The conditions that prevail at the Botswana Football Association (BFA) are not conducive for any coach to succeed in that position. The BFA does not support the coach with all that the coach needs hence the dismal performance of the Zebras.  I personally cannot apply for that position because I already know that I will be destined to fail,” Makwengwe said.

He added: “But if the BFA employs me in one of its development structures, I will happily accept that job. I love to develop football from the grassroots level”.

The position of the Zebras head coach is vacant following the sacking of David Bright who was fired for not bringing desired results.

While BFA has said that Bright was not performing as per their agreement with him, Bright has also fired back saying that the BFA was not providing him with all the necessary resources that would enable him to perform.

He cited the Zebras’ lack of playing friendly games against reputable and tough national teams as one of the reasons that led to the

Zebras’ dismal performance. Former coaches Peter Butler and Jelusic Veselin are some of the coaches that have applied for the vacant Zebras hot seat.
