Letlhakane hospital drainage system a health hazard

This was revealed by the minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele in Parliament on Tuesday.

“An assessment was carried out by Water Utilities Corporation on or around December 2018 and found that there was a blockage in the internal reticulation which was attended to by Ministry in January 2019,” Madigele said.

“Despite attending to a blockage in the reticulation in January, the hospital experiences frequent blockages and is currently doing an intensive assessment of the whole hospital for a possible upgrading of the drainage system during the 2019/20 fiscal year.”

The Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Sethomo Lelatisitswe had wanted to know if the drainage was ever expanded or improved to cater for the increase in numbers within the facility.

Lelatisitswe also wanted to know the threats that could be posed by leaking drainage system at the hospital.

Madigele said a leaking drainage system could trigger outbreak of diseases if not attended to within a reasonable time.

The capacity of the hospital at construction was 25 beds facility and it is still the same capacity.
