Khaya releases third album

In an interview with Showbiz, he said Keaikana is an album that reflects on his music life. “Keaikana is about a man who promises his wife that he will stand with her even beyond death,” he said.

With this album Khaya said he has decided to change the tone of his lyrics. “My music was touching in the last two albums but Keaikana is about love and happiness,” he highlighted. Khaya said changing his music for the better is partly the reason why he crossed the boarders to SA for a different touch of Afro Pop. He said being in the music for a long time has given him the much-needed experience and he would now push his music.

On top of production, Khaya said he has featured South African artists like MR Vee, Miss Vee and Refilwe. Locally Khaya said he worked with Kese Sereto, Macdonald Tsheko, Sthandwa Botsang and Kate Yuyi.

The singer who has close to two decades in the music industry said he started music in 1999 when he was still singing with his cousin Eugene Jackson. “We were singing motswako and R&B then but when Eugene joined a group called Gents Ya Kasi I moved to Phikwe where I formed a group called Trouble Makers,” he recalled.

In 2003, Khaya said he decided to go solo after his partner Mompoloki Lebitla went back to his hometown. After going solo, the 35-year-old singer said he switched to Afro-Pop because there were more weddings and people appreciated the music.

In 2004, the man from Serule released his first album entitled Nkuku Sedisa and his late grandmother inspired it. “I was young and I knew nothing about marketing music and I was also struggling with finances,” he said.

In 2010 he released his second album and the atmosphere changed because he was able to hire dancers and started playing live music. He said he then took a break after the person he was working with died in a car accident.

“It really affected me and I came back in 2012 and started working on my current album,” he said. Khaya said he is currently using social media to market his album. He thanked his church APDC Ministry for rallying behind him.
