Speaking as a guest at the launch of the sixth edition of the Mascom Top 8 competition in Gaborone yesterday, Kgosietsile departed from his prepared speech to let out his concerns.

“Football is a national sport, but is always in the news for the wrong reasons.  My plea is not to (Maclean) Letshwiti, but to those who lost the (BFA) elections. Please work together for the good of football. Letshwiti is not (BFA) president by default, this Pull Him Down syndrome must stop,” Kgosietsile said.

He said football benefits from sponsors like Mascom, more than the company benefits from the game, therefore it is crucial to value the partnership. Kgosietsile urged the media to report responsibly and desist from being sensational.

“The power of the pen must be used right,” he pleaded. Kgosietsile commended Mascom for doing a great job in sponsoring football and urged other companies to follow suit.

“Despite adverse publicity, you have stood by the tournament. It is now up to the teams as well to put their house in order,” he said.

The Botswana Premier League, after a turbulent last season, was also advised to put its house in order.“It is embarrassing that in this era there are still defaulters. I know you are capable of putting your house in order.” BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said it was refreshing that after all the turbulence over the last nine months, teams were finally back playing football. “I would like to express my gratitude to Mascom, which stood by us even in the darkest hour. As a new committee, we have hit the ground running to restore order and normality.

Big brands like Mascom deserve better, and we assure you that we will give you just that,” Letshwiti said.
