The team gained promotion to the First Division three years ago and team manager, Nelson Kgosipheko, then said they wanted to progress to the Premier League after three seasons.

He said they set an achievable target and have remained focused.

“We are well on course. We had planned to build a squad in two seasons and fight for Premiership promotion in the third season,” he said.

Wanderers are a point ahead of TAFIC and 10 points clear of third-placed Sua Flamingoes.

They need nine points to put one foot in the Premiership.

The Palapye side has played their matches with the two top contenders. With three home games and two away games remaining, the league is theirs to lose.

Of the two away matches, the other is against rivals Motlakase, who are responsible for one of Wanderers defeat this season.

In the other remaining games, they face Nico United, Palapye All Stars, Calendar Stars and Real Movers.

Their only away tie is to Real Movers. Wanderers have lost once in Pilikwe in a derby against Motlakase. Their loss at home dates back to the opening day of the season in October last year. They have conceded two goals at home in five league games.

Wandi-Wandi, as they are affectionately known, don’t look like a side that will break anytime soon. They have lost twice and drew once during the entire season. They are yet to register a defeat in the second round. They are enjoying a seven-game unbeaten streak where they bagged 15 goals and conceded three.

“We have been brilliant so far. We have reached a point where we cannot blink.

We are treading carefully to ensure we don’t trip at the last hurdle. Our focus is fully on the next assignment and we will deal with others as they come,” Kgosipheko said.

Wanderers will be home to Nico United on Saturday. TAFIC have kept the pressure on Wanderers since their slip from the summit. They will hope to maintain the chase against Palapye All Stars on Sunday.

Sua Flamingoes welcome Real Movers at Paul Henry Stadium with Green Lovers hosting Eleven Angels. Motlakase will be home to GNT and Calendar Stars face City Greens in a Francistown derby. All matches kickoff at 4pm.
