Zimbabwean pastor deported

Charles Thembo, 45, recently admitted to having sex with a prostitute but failed to pay for services rendered because he did not have money.

The prostitute from Kgaphamadi location reported Thembo to Kutlwano police station for having raped her.

Thembo, who told the police that he was a pastor at popular Malawian cleric Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Church in Francistown, was saved possible rape trial by a friend who deposited P1,800 into the prostitute’s bank account, who subsequently withdrew the rape charges.

On Monday, Thembo was fined P400 for entering the country illegally. The fine is payable by October 31, failure to which he will spend three months in jail.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Kaveri Kapeko threatened to set free on bail Gobuamang Ntsuape, a man accused of arson and murder, if the state fails to produce a report of his psychiatric evaluation by today as per order issued two weeks back.

“I am giving you until Wednesday to take him for psychiatric evaluation or else I am inclined to give him bail. The accused person’s incarceration is further extended until then,” said Kapeko.

Inspector Tshepo had earlier told the court that investigations into the matter were still continuing.

Ntsuape is charged with the murder of Sadi Kgosietsile of Block 9 after he set alight the house she was sleeping in on September 9. She died a few days later. Ntsuape is also charged with attempting to kill Chief Kgosietsile, Segolame Kgosietsile, Tiro Kgosietsile and his child, Matla Kgosietsile.

Additionally, Ntsuape allegedly burnt two cars (Mazda and Nissan) belonging to Chief Kgosietsile on that fateful day.

The state alleged that Ntsuape’s actions stem from the fact he did not accept the fact that Dorcas Kgosietsile - his former girlfriend and mother of his child -decided to end their romance.

All of Ntsuape’s alleged victims have since been discharged from Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

In an unrelated matter, seven men charged with the murder of a teacher last year were committed to the High Court for trial.

The state alleges that Nthoiwa Maxala, 33, Tshoganetso Maxala, 22, Thusani Manala, 29, Tsaone Sedimo, 28, Unaludo Madumba, 27, Obonetse Sedimo, 28 and McPherson Gaogakwe, 49, shot dead Thuso Mulaladzi on September 13 at Somerset East location.

Chief Prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano told the court that committal documents in the matter were signed by the Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) adding that the state was ready to commit the accused to the High Court for trial. Following that, magistrate Kapeko cancelled the accused’s bail.
