We are not thieves Masisi

Masisi made the remarks when officiating at the party’s dinner in Maun West. Earlier on, he addressed a political rally, before flying to Seronga to attend a victory celebration.

He said: “you must pledge to BDP financially so it can grow to take care of your businesses. BDP will look after your money. We are not thieves”. Masisi further assured the gathering that BDP remains committed to serving the business community to ensure the sector thrives. “We have a reputation regionally and internationally for being a peaceful nation where business easily grows,” he said.

He said since assuming the BDP chairperson, he has taken a decision to help the ruling party grow exponentially and vowed, he is ready to cover the entire country to do just that. Addressing a rally at Magotho freedom square, Masisi said the BDP would continue to recruit from the opposition ranks ahead of the 2019 elections, adding that many opposition members want to join his party in large numbers.

He accused the opposition of politicising the BCL closure, saying the placement of the business on provisional liquidation was taken in the interest of the mine. He also refuted that changes to the electoral law, which introduced the electronic voting machines, opposed by opposition, was taken without consultation. He stated that all the necessary consultations were done and Batswana indicated that they want the EVMs.

For his part, Okavango legislator who decamped to the BDP recently, Bagalatia Arone said his former home, the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is dead. He said many members would leave the party. “BCP is a failed project. The opposition unity will not work,” Arone said.

North West District Council chairman, Reaboka Mbulawa said BDP is committed to improving the livelihoods of Ngamiland people. He stated that the P1 billion Mohembo bridge project and the Maun Phase two water and sewarage projects reflect the goverments commitment thereto.
