Venson-Moitoi appeared at the CDC chambers in Serowe recently alongside Khama and Roselyn Panzirah-Matshome to campaign before a party caucus.

Their move at the CDC was to counter Masisi’s campaign the previous day. Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane who is also the BDP chairperson proposed a vote for Masisi.

According to one councillor who preferred anonymity for fear of victimisation, Tsogwane delivered his campaign message and left the Chambers without any problem.

“Venson-Moitoi was given an equal opportunity. She solicited for votes from the house. She was civil, and everyone afforded her an ear,” the civic leader revealed.

“The same goes for Panzirah-Matshome who spoke about the welfare of the councillors and how she intended to address it and all the councillors appreciated her appeal.”

The source said Khama was also given the platform, but instead of buttressing Venson-Moitoi and Matshome’s points he delved into his issues with Masisi, the governance of the country and the grim state of the party.

Khama insisted on opening the floor for questions after his address-a move that left the caucus disorderly as they expressed their views as they wished.

That was after councillor Thatayaone Segola’s blatant address to the former president that did not sit well with the latter’s sympathisers. Segola appears in a leaked video critiquing the former president and praising the incumbent. He confirmed the remarks in a telephone interview.

The Mmadinare constituency specially elected councillor started his deliberations by thanking Khama for choosing Masisi as his successor. He said Masisi was sound and called for the former president to collect himself and relax. He said Batswana were happy under the current leadership.

CDC chairperson, Peter William declined to be drawn into the matter. He could only confirm that Tsogwane came to canvass votes for the incumbent and Venson-Moitoi did the same alongside her team.
