Three horse riders' gang rape Mmatshumu woman

The trio is known for various criminal activities in the village. The ringleader of the three is on bail for several cases that include murder and rape amongst others.

The woman was walking from the village bar at night to her house when she met her ordeal.

The gang snatched the woman in the darkness and carried her in one of the horses to their home. At their house, they allegedly took turns in sexually assaulting her.

When they had all took their turns on her, she pleaded with them to relieve herself outside the house.

She slipped into the darkness and headed to Mmatshumu police to report. The police immediately responded and when they got to the house the three men had fled the scene.

Letlhakane police superintendent, Michael Maphephu said the woman was able to identify the three men. He said they have leads and are on the trail of the suspects. He said the suspects are known criminals aged between 25 and 28.

“They have caused terror to the villagers on many occasions but we are on their trail. One of them is on bail for various cases. We heard every time they commit a crime they hide somewhere in the Makgadikgadi Pans and we will follow them into the pans,” he said.

Maphephu said the woman was taken for medical check-ups at Letlhakane Primary Hospital and it was confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

In another incident, the Letlhakane station commander said they had arrested an 18-year-old teenager of Mokubilo suspected of raping a nine-year-old girl. The girl’s father reported the matter.

According to the report, the girl was playing with her age mates in the evening when the boy came and took her away from others. He allegedly raped her by the village standpipe.

When she arrived back home later that evening, the father interrogated the girl. She revealed to the father that the boy, whom she was able to identify, used her. The suspect has been arrested and will appear before the Letlhakane Magistrate Court.
