Inflation Quickens To 2.8%

In a statement, Statistics Botswana said the inflation rates for regions between August 2016 and September 2016 shows that cities and towns went up to 2.8 percent from 2.6 percent, urban villages increased to 2.7 percent from 2.6 percent, and rural villages remained unchanged at 2.9 percent.

Group indices were generally stable between August and September 2016, recording changes of less than 1.0 percent, except housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which recorded a change of 1.0 percent.

The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group index recorded an increase of 1.0 percent, from 180.7 in August to 182.6 in September. This was due to a rise in the constituent section index of rent paid by tenants.
