Ministers son arrested and granted bail in drug bust

He secretly appeared before Lobatse Magistrates’ court on Monday and was granted bail, Mmegi has learnt.

The suspect was entering the country from South Africa.

Sources within the police service were too scared to share any details saying investigations have been an uphill battle as most already fear for their jobs.

Reached for comment, the Ramatlabama police commander refused to comment on the issue saying, “it is beyond me” even refusing to share his name.  He referred this reporter to the Officer Commanding (OC) for the area, who also referred our enquiries to the Public Relations Unit.

“They have appeared in court. Go to court and get facts there,” BPS spokesperson Witness Bosija said briefly.

Mmegi efforts to get details from Lobatse Magistrates’ court did not bear any fruit.

Sources around the senior government official’s son case say they have already been instructed to treat the case as sensitive as reckless handling of the matter may attract undesirable repercussions. “We fear that because it involves top ranking officers of government,  the case may be swept under the carpet. We have been instructed not to speak to anyone about it.”

The suspects will mention again at the Lobatse Magistrate court in two weeks.
