Epic clash looms large at Dladleng, Fora Farm

It will feature Botswana’s own kwasa kwasa heavyweights amongst them Frank Lesokwane and South Africa’s disco queen Patricia Majalisa. Although the music festival has kwasa kwasa and Disco artistes in the line up, it brings together performers who are crowd pullers.
Headliners, Lesokwane and Majalisa have acquired legendary status in their own musical right after dominating the kwasa kwasa and disco genres respectively for long periods and will look to dish out the best of what has catapulted them to fame.
The line-up of the festival, which is organised by Franco Investments, will also have Slindile formerly with Dalom Music, Jeff Matheatau, Mc Maswe, Tshepo G, Mlesho and traditional dance group Dilomakwati, while DJ Pops and DJ Black Stars will be on the decks.
Both Majalisa and Franco, as Lesokwane is known in the music circles, need no introduction with plenty of albums under their belts. With albums such as Akulalwa, Batsha, Cowards, Epatini, Umona, Majalisa’s popularity in the country has not waned despite her type of music losing grip in her native country.
According to Franco, this is one of the biggest music festivals in Botswana’s showbiz calendar. Franco said whilst he has shared stage with Majalisa before, this provides an opportunity for fans of the two music genres to enjoy together.
“I have realised that different genres are working in isolation, which is not good for the industry. We have to come together at one point and give Batswana different music under one roof for their appreciation hence the purpose of this festival. I know Batswana will appreciate it,” said Franco. Franco also said they had also wanted Sotho-Tswana soul maestro Johny Mokhali to be part of the music festival, unfortunately he already had bookings. The Lerato Ka Mogala hitmaker is also a fan favourite locally and his presence would have added spice to an already ‘tasty’ lineup.
Franco said they have beefed up security as they expect a large crowd. Tickets for the show are selling at P100 elsewhere and P150 for VIP.
