The royal family has not been seeing eye-to-eye, particularly with Mothibe who was seen as a sell-out for his conservative views against those of the extreme leftist regime led by Kgafela and Sekai. Mothibe Linchwe was reinstated as president of Customary Court of Appeal (South) after successfully pleading for forgiveness from President Ian Khama.

The Monitor can reveal that the Bakgatla royals recently had a heart-to-heart meeting that was viewed as a post-mortem of their struggle against the government. The royals in that meeting also shared their experiences and views as well as map a comeback strategy. All the four leaders have had a rough and tumultuous experience with the tribe bearing the brunt of it all.

Segale Linchwe confirmed the meeting with this publication yesterday, describing it as a sweet and soothing meeting. “We enjoyed our company, looked back and fourth, laughed and ironed a few silly differences we had about each other. Kgabo will come. He misses his people just as we miss him so dearly. It shall all come to pass and Bakgatla tribe and culture will soon be restored,” Segale said further adding that some agents and elements infiltrated the royal family and wanted to capitalise on their disunity.

In a meeting that was addressed by government on calls to reinstate Kgafela and Sekai, Mothibe, after been attacked by some people, stood up to inform the royal family and the tribe that the royal family needed to sit down and talk to iron out some differences and map the way forward.

He warned those who are hell-bent on stirring disunity among the royal family to know that they can try but cannot break the royal family’s blood relationship.

In a brief interview with The Monitor, Mothibe confirmed the meeting but said he was not at liberty to share the details of the meeting. “I wish I could, but such matters are still under discussion and premature disclosure may not be ideal,” he said.

It is not clear what Kgafela told the royal family, but sources say he briefed them about his correspondence with Khama, his fight in Moruleng and his master plan. Above everything, he is said to have pleaded for their support in these difficult times,, further asking about their wellbeing and that of Morafe.
