Following a round of showcasing their talent and cultural backgrounds, Mosa Balesamang eventually walked away with the crown while Utlwanang Matibini representing Thamaga Branch and Boikhutso Gakeonyatse (Gantsi Branch) were named the first and second Princesses respectively.

In an interview, one coordinator of the pageantry, Nayang Masinta said their main mandate was to empower every member of the Township Rollers Football Club given that a requirement for being able to sign up for the pageantry was that each has to carry a Popa membership card.

“We had expected to make it to the finals of the Mascom Top 8 unfortunately we were knocked out by Gaborone United,” said Masinta.

“Our plan was to let the pageant take place just before the finals had we made it there just to empower the players and supporters, but because we did not make it to the finals we ended up not having any motivation to carry on with the pageant. But we decided to push and make it happen”.

Mmoni Segopolo was one former player and captain of the club, who graced the event.

Segopolo said he is proud that the event is finally happening, not only for the sake of having a queen in the club but also to empower young girls.

He said the reigning Miss Rollers would be expected to be seen at every home game for the club and also make appearances and representations on behalf of the team.

Sixteen (16) girls from Township Rollers Football Club’s different branches all over the country entered the pageant, all with the hope of leaving with the crown. The judges were to look at different criteria, be it casual wear, team wear, traditional wear among others.

Balesamang, 25, said it had been a tight competition from the start given that most of the girls have been in pageantry before.

“I studied the weaknesses of the girls during the time spent together. I then came up with the strategy and used it to my advantage,” she said.
