Tlhapisang is now self-employed and has settled well according to his new wife. For years, peace had eluded the lovers, nicknamed Botswana’s Romeo and Juliet by the media, as they had brushes with the army supremo.

For a long time they were at loggerheads with their boss and BDF Commander, Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo following their dismissal from work for allegedly contravening the military’s policy on fraternisation and sexual harassment back in 2014.

The couple persevered and fought for their love for almost four years until the matter was put to rest last April after the two parties, (BDF and the couple) decided to settle the matter for the sake of peace. Then through their lawyer, Othusitse Mbeha, they agreed to abandon the contempt of court judgement that was issued against the Commander in 2016.

Then there was drama when the Commander almost got imprisoned for failing to reinstate the couple following the reinstatement judgement.

Lobatse High Court Judge, Zein Kebonang had issued a warrant of arrest for Segokgo citing his failure to comply with a court ruling that the two should be reinstated. In 2017, the duo had a traditional ceremony where bride price was paid, and this past weekend they celebrated their wedding.

Following the celebration, the couple who now have three kids; two girls and a boy said they were overwhelmed with happiness that against all odds they finally tied the knot.

“Our wedding celebration was held in Palapye on Saturday. We thank God to have pulled us through against all odds until we tied the knot as we had wished. We have big plans for our family and pray for God’s blessings and protection through out our love life,” said the bride.

She said she was happy that the disputes are over and even during their wedding, BDF gave them the permission to use the military uniform; something that they had wished to see happening when they first met us lovers.

“Our wedding was nice. It was what we had wished for. My husband and I are happy. My husband has quit the army and has settled in as an entrepreneur and we have put the past behind us, and looking forward to the future,” she said.

She added that even though they loved their job both looking for the military they have accepted the BDF policies and moved on with life.

“Monna wame one a rata tiro ya gagwe ya sesole fela jaaka nna however he had to quit for the sake of peace. He is now self-employed and has settled well. Life has to go on, we have put that all behind us and happy,” she said.
