Masisi ascended to the State presidency on April 1, 2018 as a successor to former president Ian Khama and he is defending his seat ahead of this year’s general elections.

Faced with a presidential challenge from his former Cabinet colleague, Pelonomi-Venson-Moitoi, the President is seemingly not leaving anything to chance. Although already tipped to win the race with majority of the party structures rallying behind him, Masisi is giving the campaign his very all. He takes advantage of any moment to canvass for support.

Masisi is the first State and BDP president to be challenged for the presidency. He was set to meet Kang-bound delegates at the Adansonia Hotel here later today. BDP Francistown region chairperson, Baemedi Medupe has confirmed that as a region they have taken advantage of the President’s official visit in Tonota and Francistown to allow him to cheer up delegates as they prepare to leave for the special congress later in the week.

“He will be coming to rally up the party delegates ahead of the weekend congress. He wants to also canvass for support from the delegates,” said Medupe, adding that the President would also have time with legislators, civic leaders and party elders in the region some of whom are delegates to the special congress.

Masisi, who apparently has a very tight schedule, earlier in the day held a Kgotla meeting in Tonota in his effort to continue consulting the people on a wide range of issues bedevilling the nation. The President’s tight itinerary will also take him to the Cresta Marang Hotel where he will meet with some businesspeople, former legislators, former civic leaders and senior citizens who want to share a moment with him on issues of national interest. This is a meeting co-coordinated from the District Commissioner’s office.
