Venson-Moitoi, who is a former Cabinet minister and Serowe South MP, has filed an urgent court application at the Lobatse High Court.

Yesterday, the party disqualified 26 delegates who had sponsored Venson-Moitoi’s candidacy in the presidential contest against President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The disqualification effectively rendered her candidacy invalid, as the BDP constitution requires her to have at least 50 delegates for nomination to contest the presidential election.

Venson-Moitoi wants the court to stop the election until she fully complies with the party’s constitutional requirement.

Justice Modiri Letsididi has since recused himself from the case and it is now before Justice Ranier Busang.

The case will be heard on Thursday morning at the Lobatse High Court.

Venson-Moitoi is represented by Dick Bayford and Kgotso Botlhole of Bayford & Associates.
