Police Make Breakthrough

“These syndicate of criminals range around 19 to 22 years of age. The five suspects who were arrested last week comprise three young men and two young women,” Motube said.

“The suspects are alleged to have broken into a car and made away with two valuable cell phones at Block 6 entertainment spot (United Lounge) parking.”

The criminals are associated with the recent gang that terrorised civilians around Botswana Open University formerly College of Distance Learning (BOCODOL) road humps in Block 6 where sharp objects and hammers were used to threaten individuals and rob them of their valuables.  “These groups of individuals practise their barbaric acts at night of when they obtain people’s properties by force since they are armed,’’ said Motube. 

In another incident, the police have warned the public about fraudsters who rob people of their money purporting that they sent them money through eWallet.  Investigations have revealed that the said criminals call unsuspecting individuals with the claim that they have eWalleted them money by mistake and requesting the victims to send the money back immediately.

The scammers would put their victims under pressure, claiming that they urgently needed the money as it was intended for an emergency. In the process, they make sure that they do not allow the victim a chance to check their eWallet status before they send the money. Therefore, the “Police would like to appeal to the public to always take time to assess the authenticity of the Short Message Services (SMS) received and report to the Police before responding and parting with their money.”
