A BFA member says referees will play their part

Botswana Football Association (BFA) referees committee chairperson and a member of the association’s National Executive Committee, Eatametse Olopeng said everything is in order. When asked about the recent reports about outstanding payments, Olopeng told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have not received any official complaint about the matter.

“When we came into office, we found that there were pending payments for referees. The pending payments are from last season, but we are on top of that. We are addressing the issue as the executive,” Olopeng said.

He said the focus is now on the commencement of the league and all pending issues would be addressed. He said the BFA leadership would go through its structures to address matters that might affect the running of the league.

Olopeng said the new BFA leadership cannot be blamed for the outstanding payments. He said the plan is to sort everything and close all gaps.

Meanwhile, Olopeng said referees always embark on refresher courses to make sure that they get accustomed to the laws of the game. He said the BFA public education committee is to embark on public education on the laws of the game. He said the committee is currently formulating its plan. Olopeng said public education is necessary because as football develops, supporters should not be left behind.
