The Swazi prince had accompanied his father to the just-ended Golden Jubilee celebrations held at the National Stadium last Friday. He was reportedly robbed in his hotel room at the Grand Palm on Sunday morning.

While the prince’s name is presently unknown, sources said the man robbed is the same who lost a similar amount last August after a drinking spree with friends at Avani Hotel, formerly Gaborone Sun.

In this new case, the sources said the matter was reported to the Gaborone West Police Station in the wee hours of Sunday morning where it is under investigation.

“The case was registered at the Gaborone West Police. We are still investigating the case. It is alleged that they were robbed of cash amounting to $5,000 and we are investigating allegations of theft common,” police public relations officer, Assistant Commissioner Witness Bosija said.  He declined to name the complainant and also denied reports that an unknown female and two males have been arrested in the matter.

“No one has been arrested as yet. We are still investigating because at this stage these are still allegations,” he said. Last August, it was reported that the prince had woken up in the morning after a night of drinks to find himself missing $5,000, his iPhone and an expensive watch.

Police traced the suspects to Bontleng where they were arrested and only the phone and watch were recovered. The prince and his crew left the country Sunday morning.
