Sefhare man arrested for raping bartender

The incident allegedly occurred at around 11pm after the victim knocked off from her job.  The man and a friend of his were imbibing at the bar.  They offered to walk her home when she closed up, as it was late.

Along the way, the other man took a different direction and the suspect continued along with the victim. The woman reported that some minutes after they parted ways with the suspect’s friend, the man started fondling her.

When she tried to resist, the suspect forcefully pulled her into the nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her. When he was done he left her in the bushes and fled the scene.

The woman immediately reported the matter to the police. She was taken to Sefhare Primary Hospital for medical attention.

Through the help of the other patrons at the bar on the night, the suspect was identified.

He was arrested the next day at his house.  He was also taken to Sefhare Hospital for medical examinations.

Machaneng Police station commander superintendent Peggy Vakalisa said the suspect is in custody and is due to appear before the Mahalapye Magistrate’s Court.

She advised employers to take care of their staff. “Situations like this are very sad particularly for the women,” she said.

“Times have changed.  Nowadays you cannot have a lady knock off in the thick of the night and expect her to walk home. It is almost a set up for such ailments. They could even be killed. We encourage employers to seriously reconsider the safety of their staff.”
