Zim Man Murdered, Lover Raped

The Mahalapye police station commander, Superintendent Isaac Mamadi told The Monitor that on the day, they received a call that an unknown man suspected to be a Zimbabwean was found lying dead in a pool of blood in a certain yard at Bokaa ward.

While the deceased is thought to be in his 30s, Mamadi said they do not have the exact age of the deceased yet as he did not have any identity cards in his pocket.

 “We suspect that there was a fight before the deceased died because he was stabbed several times in his body. So we suspect that he might have fled to the nearest yard during the fight where he fell and died because he was even unknown by the owners of the yard,” said Mamadi.

He said in the wee hours of the Independence Day, a 34-years-old woman came to report rape and assault. He said the victim then pointed out one of the suspects they had detained as one of her rapists.

Mamadi said on investigating, it emerged that the deceased and the rape victim were lovers and were together in the same night when they were attacked. “We suspect that the other man whom we suspect is connected to the murder of that night also connects to the rape incident which is said to have taken place in the same ward in an abandoned house at around 1200 midnight,” said Mamadi.

He said from the information they got from the victim, there was a fight which led to her ending up being threatened with a knife, assaulted and raped by a certain man on the same night. However, Mamadi said the lady did not have any visible injuries and that the police investigations are still ongoing.

In an unrelated incident, Mamadi said they are investigating a case in which a 22-years-old man was found hanging on his house’s rafters at Madiba Ward on that fateful Thursday.

He said that they still do not have information as to what might have caused the deceased to take such a decision, as he did not leave any note.

However, the police boss said from the information from the man’s aunt is that on the night, the victim asked other family members to leave his room saying he wanted to rest.

”According to his aunt, they all left the house leaving him alone and after about 15minutes when the aunt went back to the house to fetch something that she said she had forgotten there, she found the deceased hanging on the rafters dead leaving the whole family astonished,” he said.
